Beauty, Not A One-Size Fits All - Part Four

{Links are provided at the end of your reading.}

We're continuing with our 'Beauty Unfading, Over Fading Beauty' series. This soul care series is a brave step into our grace and freedom rhythms.

There's nothing wrong with outer beauty, but when it gets elevated to a place of all-importance, it distorts and disturbs our perception of noticing beauty from many different angles. This is why we need to campaign for another viewpoint of beauty from the Beautiful One, Himself. There's a purpose to beauty that's less about admiration and more about intimate connection:

"Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes

from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God - 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NLT)."

It's really an honor to have sat down with my daughter and designer, Anneliese (b.a.s.h_18), to talk about her journey of acknowledging her beauty from the inside-out. This is the wrap up of her responses to my interview questions.

The Interview Part Four

WEEK FOUR

Question:

Do you ever feel as if you have to change yourself in order to fit in and be accepted?

Answer: I used to think that I had to change everything about myself to be accepted and to fit in. And honestly, it was exhausting! Now, I realize that some people in this world, especially those in the fashion industry, one in which I'm involved, will only want a mere part of me, the external, my fading beauty. But I choose to center myself on the entire woman God designed me to be and become. WEEK FIVE

Question:

How do you stay spiritually grounded as a millennial fashion designer/model in the 21st Century?

Answer: It’s hard to stay grounded in the fashion world where “everything goes.” I admit I fear the future experiences I will have to bravely face when I'm pressured to say 'yes' when everything inside of me says 'no'. But, I'm choosing to stay true to myself and my values, because I’m the one going to sleep in this body, mind, and soul. WEEK SIX

Question:

Because we’re so visual, how can we cultivate a vision to see beyond our outward imperfections and see the true, inner beauty of ourselves and others?

Answer: Inside your Make Me Up notebook, or any journal really, write words of affirmation. Whether they are Bible verses, your favorite quotes, or even fun doodles; just keep reminding yourself of your true worth. We must keep discovering who we are and cling to what we believe to be true. What's true is that you and I can be BRAVE in Jesus in anything and everything we do!

I want to say thank you for Anneliese's transparency and commitment to truth in her struggles. I also want to congratulate her on the debut of her line of stationery.They have arrived! (I share one of the four ideas for using the notebook. To see the other three, see part two.)
