SOULjourner,
Lent ushers us down the corridor of sacred waiting + anticipation, weaving together the stories of Purim, Passover, and Easter. Each festival is a window into liberation—a narrative of moving from bondage to freedom, from hiddenness to revelation, from death to resurrection.
These stories are not distant history but living invitations: to breathe in solidarity, to celebrate communal liberation, and to find ourselves in the ongoing work of redemption.
A Liberating Feast: Messiah in the Wilderness
Passover and Resurrection Sunday (Easter) are living liturgies that press, pull, and propel us into liminal spaces—those “in-between” places where transformation happens. In these wilderness moments, we are not lost; we are being led.
This season, in the wilderness, we affirm:
The Messiah meets us here, not to disorient, but to direct us—personally + collectively—toward abundance + grace.
Lectio Divina: Savoring Luke 22:19-20
Let's lean into Lectio Divina and pause to meditate on the Messiah. Breathe deeply. Let the liberation of a lifetime fill your lungs + your spirit.
Lectio:
Read Luke 22:19-20 slowly: “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’”
Meditatio:
Read again. What word or phrase captures your heart? Let it echo within you. Perhaps it is “given for you,” “remembrance,” or “new covenant.” Jot it down or hold it gently in your mind.
Oratio:
Speak to God about what you’ve noticed. Offer your gratitude, your questions, your longing. If you feel anxiety, bring it. If you feel joy, bring that too. Let your conversation be honest + open, as with One who loves you completely.
Contemplatio:
Rest in God’s embrace. Let the word or phrase you received become a gentle anchor. Allow yourself to simply be—with God, with your own heart, with the promise of liberation and new life.
A Blessing - Messiah in The Wilderness
This Lenten season...
May the Messiah who meets you in the wilderness also lead you into the wide spaces of freedom.
May you know the joy of release, the courage to become, and the rest that comes from trusting in His finished work.
May you, beloved SOULjourner, breathe deeply of liberation—not just for yourself but for all who long to be free.
