Today, we contemplate sensitivities in the wilderness—a Lenten reflection on the influence and expression of our physical + spiritual sensitivities in our lives. Caring for these sensitivities invites us to welcome the untamed journey of our being, without self-blame or shame.


These sensitivities are our unique lens for viewing the world—a sacred imprint on our souls.


During this period of introspection, let's respect the sacred sensory sensitivities within ourselves + others as we explore our internal (spiritual) and external (physical) worlds.


Prayerfully Contemplate Your Sensitivities


Notice how your sensitivities intertwine to support + enhance your connection to God, yourself, and others.


  • Physical Sensitivity + Spiritual Insight: Do you notice the way nature seems to speak to you, bringing messages of comfort + guidance? (a hug from God) Perhaps you find that certain environments either drain or energize you, leading you to make choices that honor your need for respite + sanctuary.


  • Emotional Sensitivity + Connection with Others: Perhaps you are keenly aware of the emotions of others, and find that acts of service, such as cooking a meal or offering a listening ear, deepen your connection with friends + family.


  • Aesthetic Sensitivity + Self-Expression: Do you find yourself drawn to certain colors, textures, or sounds, and does expressing yourself through art, music, or writing help you to process your emotions and connect with God, yourself, and others?


Tending To Your Sensitivities


It's completely acceptable—and essential—to use tools + strategies that promote your wellbeing. This includes both physical + spiritual practices, woven together to support your unique needs: Like a gentle balm for the soul, consider noise-canceling headphones or earplugs to quiet the world, blue light blocking glasses to soothe strained eyes, or soft textures that swaddle you in comfort.


Meditation, prayer, time spent in nature, journaling, and other creative expressions—these are practices that lovingly support your body's nervous system + ground your spirit.


SOULjourner, this is your invitation to experiment and tend to what deeply nourishes your soul and brings you home to your holy temple.

May you find respite in healing places + people, and may the rhythm of words carry you to places of peace.


May you always remember that your senses catch the whispers of the world that others might overlook.


And may you believe that your sensitivities serve as a gateway to God's heart, offering a route to a deeper connection with yourself, with others, and with the sensitivities that cradles us all.
